Tamika Morris
School Leader Fellow
Tamika Lashawn Morris, Assistant Principal at Western Harnett High School. She holds a Master's in School Administration, School Counseling, and Business Administration as well as a Bachelors in Criminal Justice.
As a former School Counselor, Government Investigator, Victim's Advocate and Soldier, Morris has spent the majority of her adult life serving the people. She started on the path of service and equity at the age of nine years old when her father dad introduced her to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). From the ages of 9 to 18, she marched in the deep south every summer. As she got older, she realized that everyone did not appreciate our marching and began questioning the mission. It was at that time that her father told her that some people were not in a position to fight for themselves. That became very evident when she joined the District Attorney’s (DA) Office in her hometown and was assigned to Juvenile Court. Week after week, Morris would see kids of color come in for school fights and more so; she left the DA’s office after 9-11 and started in public education.
For the next 14 years, Morris worked in Title I schools with students of color exposing them to the wonders of the world. Now, Morris is serving a rural school in a rural county and sees herself as the “teacher not scared” in Lupe Fiasco’s The Show Goes On.
Morris is an avid reader, investor, and sports fanatic. She enjoys kickboxing, singing off key and spending time with her wife and cheering her kids on in their ventures.
