Education Funding Equity in North Carolina: Looking Beyond Income
by Kris Nordstrom
North Carolina’s schools suffer from some of the lowest school funding levels in the nation. Our per-student spending ranks 48th in the country. Our school funding effort - the amount we spend relative to the size of our economy - ranks 49th. Kris Nordstrom, a Senior Policy Analyst with the North Carolina Justice Center’s Education & Law Project, examines the equity of school funding across income, race, English learner status, and local county revenue capacity (i.e. “wealth”).
