Jackie Aponte
Post-Secondary Fellow
Jackie Aponte is an experienced educator, instructional coach, and teacher educator with over thirteen years of expertise in curriculum development, assessment writing, middle grades history and literacy teaching, reading intervention, and using data to improve literacy outcomes for students. Currently serving as an instructional coach with the UNC-Chapel Hill region of the North Carolina New Teacher Support Program, Jackie supports educators in building supportive classroom communities, enhancing instructional practices, and improving learning outcomes for students.
With a background that includes designing and teaching an undergraduate course in educational equity, as well as developing and leading numerous professional learning opportunities for teachers, Jackie brings a deep commitment to creating effective learning experiences for educators. She aims to create professional learning spaces that foster community and care, meet diverse learner needs, hone critical literacy skills, and support teachers in imagining a more just and equitable future. Jackie is skilled in equipping educators with strategies to build and maintain inclusive classroom spaces, improve reading proficiency, and foster student collaboration, agency, discourse, and critical thinking.
Jackie holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, with a minor in Latino/a Studies from from UNC-Chapel Hill, as well as a master’s degree in Education, k-12 Literacy, from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is currently completing a graduate certificate in Anti-Racism in Education from UNC-Charlotte.
